Contemporary art exhibitions and consultancy

Situated in the heart of Leiden, near the old observatory and botanical garden, Yellow Gallery shines as a beacon for contemporary and fine art lovers. Located on the historical grounds 'Ons-Eiland,' where, around 1919, various famous physicists like Albert Einstein, Paul Ehrenfest, and Heike Kamerlingh Onnes came together to discuss their equations and formulas and make music. The gallery beautifully blends Eastern European architecture from Lithuania with a castle-like posture. YELLOW Gallery is not just a venue but an experience – encapsulating a rich history in itself. Our first exhibition was this March with the artists: Anne van As, Joris Veltman and Simon Schrikker. In June we showed the work of John van 't Slot and Julia Kaiser.

Hands in the Garden 7 | 8 | 9 June

We are pleased to invite you for "HANDS IN THE GARDEN". The thematic beacon inspired by Half Moon Run's melodic composition, orchestrates an immersive journey through an art exposition where the evocative creations of Julia Kaiser and the enchanting narratives of van 't Slot converge. Kaiser's "Extended Travels" series pays homage to Japanese aesthetics, intertwining motifs of Ginkgo leaves and ginger roots amidst tranquil landscapes reminiscent of Zen gardens. In contrast, her latest exploration draws from Piet Oudolf's opulent gardens, capturing nature's dynamic essence with bursts of vibrant blooms and verdant foliage.

Meanwhile, van 't Slot's oeuvre beckons viewers into a realm where reality intertwines with enchantment. Figurative elements frolic across his canvases, inhabited by creatures from folklore and abstract landscapes imbued with a sense of mystique. Yet, beneath the whimsical facade, an undercurrent of disquietude reminiscent of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" pervades, as his figures navigate a world rife with uncertainty.

Through their respective lenses, Kaiser and van 't Slot present a captivating interplay of serenity and disquiet, inviting spectators to immerse themselves in the transformative allure of botanical beauty while contemplating the enigmatic mysteries nestled within the garden's embrace.

Registration required via RSVP. We are looking forward to welcoming you in our gallery.
